Our 2017 Interns
Because it’s National Intern Day, we thought we’d introduce our two summer interns who have been hard at work here at AVX Digital. They’ve been a fabulous addition to our team and we’ll miss them when they’re gone!
We are excited to introduce Courtney Smith as one of our Summer 2017 interns! Courtney is a senior at the University of North Texas double-majoring in Merchandising and Digital Retailing. Right now she is heavily focused on SEO and PPC, but has also learned a great deal about design and social media. So far, she has gotten her Google Analytics and AdWords certifications and intends to become Facebook Blueprint certified by the end of the summer.
Q: What has been your favorite part about your internship at AVX so far?
A: Getting to be hands on and actually feel like I’m contributing has definitely been an ongoing plus around here. I’ve been able to help with real PPC campaigns and SEO strategizing, and I’ve had training on HTML and design. It’s so much better than just watching someone else do it or listen to a lecture. Everyone has been willing to help me learn, and I just love how collaborative the team is here.
Q: What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned at AVX?
A: That no day is the same in agency life. You have to be prepared for change on a whim, otherwise, you fall behind. Keeping up to date on digital marketing practices is also crucial, so a desire to learn new things is a must.
Q: Do you have any pro tips for future interns?
A: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you ask, the more you’ll learn. If there is something going on around the office that you want to learn more about, don’t be afraid to ask to shadow someone or have a training session. This internship is definitely what you make of it, so don’t stifle your own curiosity. Everyone around here wants to help you grow.
Q: Lastly, what do you see yourself doing after the internship is over?
A: Well, I’m moving to Austin and I definitely plan on staying within the digital marketing industry over there. Aside from work, I really want to travel. The biggest item on my bucket list is to travel to every continent.
We are also excited to introduce Kayla Whatley as another AVX intern this summer. Kayla is a May 2017 graduate from the University of North Texas Mayborn School of Journalism, with a B.A. in public relations and a minor in marketing. She has recently moved to Dallas and plans to use her knowledge of public relations and digital marketing to pursue a career in the area. When she’s not in the office, you can find her at the nearest concert or music festival, coffee shop or trying out the latest locally brewed beer.
